Freelance Web Design/Programming

Over the past few years I've worked various freelance Web design/programming jobs. You can see a list of the sites I've designed in the Samples section of my site. I am currently developing an AuthorIT library and an accompanying Word 2003 template.

Senior Technical Writer

Writing - Research, write, and edit technical documentation about power management hardware and software based. This requires writing for print and the Web.

  • Researched and implemented the use of conditional text documents, allowing multiple documents to be updated simultaneously.
  • Wrote 12 instruction bulletins varying in size from 4 pages to 250 pages using FrameMaker.
  • Wrote one HTML-based Help file.
  • Wrote one product guide.
  • Create Acrobat PDF files for print and the Web.
  • Generate HTML output for all documentation using FrameMaker and WebWorks Publisher.

Programming - Create Web pages, Web templates, CD AutoRun executables, and Technical Library CD-ROMs.

  • Developed 10 Web pages using HTML, JavaScript, and SVG to display hardware information.
  • Created five Technical Library CD-ROMs (three use HTML/CSS and two use Flash)
  • Designed and programmed a user interface using Acrobat's JavaScript API.

Graphic Design - Design artwork for all instruction bulletins and Web documentation using Illustrator, Photoshop, and Fireworks.

  • Designed three toolbar icon sets that included a total of 27 icons.
  • Create Web graphics (buttons, labels, banners).

  • Modify and enhance line art used in technical publications.

Senior Technical Writer / Courseware Developer

Writing - Wrote Instructor-Led (ILT), Computer-Based (CBT), and Web-Based Training (WBT) courses for popular software applications and certification exams. Courses included Outlook 2000 Level 1 and 2, FrontPage 2000 Level 1 and Level 2, Project 98, The Total Solution to A+ Certification, Advanced Networking with Windows 98, and Access 2000 Level 3.

  • Wrote seven ILTs using Word.
  • Wrote three CBTs using Authorware.

Programming - Developed and maintained the entire Word 97/2000 template used by all writers to create courseware.

  • Programmed all writer automation features using VBA.
  • Created a Word 97/2000 add-in using VBA that extracts information from Access 2000 and generates a completed ILT.
  • Redesigned the Word 7.0 template using WordBasic.

Management - Managed a team of four writers.

  • Set writing priorities for each writer.

Editor

Responsible for creating/editing computer based law applications. Duties included utilizing Word and creating Word macros for editing multiple text documents as well as assisting in the training of new employees in the use of Word and Windows.

Parts Clerk and Field Inventory Manager

Responsible for ordering/stocking computer parts for field engineers. Duties included daily updating of computer files to reflect the changes in stock, supporting field engineers, and providing customer support. Management duties also included supporting the Lexington branch office.

While in college (~1990 to ~1996) I worked numerous jobs in addition to my job with NCR. Those jobs included a candid photographer for various college and high school events, a studio photographer, and disc jockey.
